About the training

UserLab’s 1 day accessibility training will teach you about some of the barriers that people with disabilities experience every day, and how to make sure your online information isn't excluding anyone.

You will learn about accessibility best practice and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)and how to create inclusive digital content.

We want to create a culture of inclusivity by helping people and organisations ensure that their online presence is accessible to all.

Who the training is for

The training is open to people and teams who want to improve their accessibility knowledge.β€―

Participants don’t need to have accessibility experience to take part.

Anyone who publishes any digital digital content on websites and social media would benefit from this training.

What you will learn

We want to help you make sure that accessibility is something you do in your day-to-day work. You will get clear guidance on how to implement accessibility best practice.

The training covers:

  • Why accessibility is important

  • The benefits of accessibility

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

  • The 4 core principles of accessibility

  • Why research and testing with a range of people is important

  • Writing accessible content

  • Headings, page structure and links

  • Images, colours, graphs and fonts

  • Social media, video and PDFs

  • Accessible presentations

The day is a mix of teaching, discussions, and practical exercises.

How you will learn

Format

The training will be carried out in person, at our office space in central Newcastle.

We have found that in-person training works best to help create a supported learning experience.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Training materials

Training materials will be provided during the session.

Access to a laptop or desktop computer is required to enable you to undertake some of the exercises. If the training in person, we can provide a laptop to a small number of participants if needed. 

After the course, you will be provided with a useful checklist and reference material to help you create accessible content going forward.

Course costs

  • Delivered in person in Central Newcastle

  • You’ll receive physical and digital learning material

  • Individual support during the day when needed

  • Refreshment and lunch provided

  • No more than 10 participants in each session

Β£350 per person (or Β£200 for people working at non-profits)
